Sue Twells

Principal Transforming Education Officer – Primary Transforming Education
Birmingham City Council

Sue has worked in Birmingham all her professional life, initially as an early years practitioner in a range of schools. She moved into Primary headship in 1988, just as the National Curriculum, OFSTED and Local Management of schools were making their debut, and took up her second headship six years later leading a newly amalgamated school on a split site.

After many years Birmingham City Council identified funds to provide new purpose built accommodation for the school in the same building as a co-located primary special school.   Sue and the headteacher of the special school, their staff and governors worked with local authority officers, architects, designers, construction professionals, engineers etc to design and deliver the new building.  In December 2008 she moved to the newly created role of Principal Transforming Education Officer with responsibility for the delivery of the Primary Strategy for Change and the Primary Capital Programme in Birmingham.
